Low Profile Ceiling Fans for Low Ceilings!
Sometimes, the air wafts produced by an overhead fan are far more comforting and cooling than the noisy rattle of an air conditioner. Of course, not everyone has the comforts of air conditioning installed in their homes anyway, and some folks wouldn't thank you for it if it were offered for free. Also, not every occasion warrants air conditioning, but sometimes those gentle air wafts produced by the fan above can be a comforting as a summers breeze on a scorching beach. We've got a couple of antique style Hunter ceiling fans in our living and dining rooms, and apart from looking just divine, they are very practical too.
There are many of us nowadays who are big fans of the low profile ceiling fan if you'll excuse the pun! Many people love the idea of having an attractive ceiling fan in every room of their home. These items circulate the air and they add light and appealing detail to any room. Unfortunately many of us own homes that are a little too small for many of the lighting fixtures that tend to hang down a little too far for clearance. Low profile ceiling fans are a dream come true for people who own smaller homes. They also appeal to very tall clients as well.
I love my cottage style home. I also love my beautiful ceiling fan that we brought with us from our old house. We did downsize. We moved from a large, old Victorian home in the city to a small cottage house in the woods. I couldn’t part with my beloved lighting fixture but I didn’t really understand that it just wouldn’t fit in the new house until we actually moved into the home. Those darn ceiling fans lights can be a bit of a bug bear at times.
How disappointing it was to see that the lighting fixture would hang too far down for people to navigate around it without the threat of being knocked in the head. I hated to put the item in storage but I really didn’t have another alternative. Even though the lighting fixtures were very nice in the new home I still wanted something that circulated the air.
We were shopping at Home Depot when my husbanded pointed out a very attractive lighting fixture on these white ceiling fans he's spotted. I loved it, but I also was a bit put off by the idea of my husband teasing me like that. Then he explained that the object was a low profile ceiling fan. These items don’t hang down nearly as low as their counterparts.
Moreover, the particular fans he was directing to were on offer in the discount ceiling fans area of the shop and the prices were extremely favorable. Ornamental fans for the home have certainly come down in price yet up in quality over the years. My initial concerns about not being able to fix ceiling fans with decorative lights in out new home simply melted away on the spot
Obviously we ended up purchasing the low clearance ceiling fan. Once home, it was fitted without delay and it looks just fantastic, it really does. I am so happy that we have the look we wanted to capturer. Now we have the benefit of circulating air throughout the room yet still have plenty of headroom. I now love the the look of my low profile ceiling fans as much as my original Hunter and Hampton Bay ceiling fans, and that's saying something!
In fact, we are looking at the lighting fixtures in just about every other room in the house. I think that we could use several low profile ceiling fans throughout the home. These fans will make the rooms more attractive as well as more comfortable. Hopefully my husband will be willing to do a lot of installing in the near future.
You may have guessed by now that I'm a big fan of fans, so much so that I've got my eye on a couple of outdoor ceiling fans for our long veranda. The idea is that we can sit outside of a long summers evening and enjoy the warm breeze produced by these fantastic decorative and practical innovations

Hugger Fans – Comments submitted by Linda Pappa (Summer 2007)
Hi Airwafts. I just love what my ceiling fans have done for the downstairs rooms. Initially we were concerned with the blades being dangerously low, but we found a solution which helped a lot, which was a range of specifically made fans for low ceilings. These fans are designed to mount to the ceiling without a downrod. What that means is that there is an increased clearance from the blades of the fan to the floor and this proved ideal for our smaller rooms. These fans have all the same functions as regular fans but in a much less conspicuous manner. Apparently, low profile ceiling fans are also called Hugger Fans! Anyway, we couldn't be happier! |
